Description:

The Svan High Chair by Scandinavian Child embodies form, function and flexibility. Designed for every stage of your child's life, the Svan Chair provides a safe seat for your child from his first taste of applesauce to his first computer. The award-winning design is perfectly suited for any home and lifestyle and is constructed with unsurpassed Swedish quality while still meeting the safety requirements of the JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturing Association) and ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials). The Svan Chair's design benefits are particularly strong when used by a small child. The key features being the design of the seat, safety guard, and tray. Small children need support to sit balanced and upright. The Svan Chair was designed so that the seat space provides optimal support for small children as they are developing upper body strength. This was accomplished through two unique design factors, a seat that can be easily adjusted in and out with a safety guard that can be fitted close to the child. Older children up to four years of age also can use the safety guard, providing additional safety for active kids. In order to facilitate the lifting of the child in and out of the chair, the safety guard is designed to easily slide in and out. The detachable tray enables the child to be seated anywhere to eat or play. The tray's lip keeps food and activities within reach, while the flat back edge of the tray makes it easy to clean. The tray easily snaps on and off and can be stored hanging off the safety guard. Providing endless flexibility, the chair can be used on its own from ages 18 months and up or with the infant kit for babies 6 months and up. The sturdy base provides so much stability that the footrest also can be used as a step for children to get in and out of the chair by themselves.

Light and easy to carry

Removable Infant kit for ages 6 months and up

4Good chair but expensiveSep 30, 2007
We have owned this chair for about 2 years. I do like it because it is small to scale and fits in the decor. There are some ugly high chairs out there. When I first saw this one I said this is it. I don't care how much it is. The only thing is it was a pain to put together so get ready. My husband and I spent some time trying to put this chair together. It was worth it. Our son loves it and has room to grow with it.

4Beautiful, but...Apr 16, 2007
I love the look of the chair, but there's a couple things buyers should know. First, DO get the plastic tray, if it doesn't come with it, then buy it seperate. That will make cleaning up a lot easier.
Also, be aware of the size of the chair. It is very small. The size is great for sitting at or near a normal dining table. I thought it would be taller.
And, for a wiggly toddler, the belt is a bit difficult to use, it's a 3 part belt that connects to a part between the legs where there is allready a wood seperater. I find it hard, but necessary, to use, because otherwise my child can get on his knees and stand on the chair.

2Very stylish, but...Sep 11, 2006
I am just baffled by all the positive reviews of this chair. I, too, was enticed by its sleek look and wooden frame, but less than practical it has become for us. We decided to bite the bullet and make this hefty purchase for the main reasons being it was wooden (not a plasticky monstrosity), and it was the perfect size for our tiny kitchen. After buying the seat AND the infant accessory we put it together and were all set. Within a few months the wood snapped on the base and we were on our own to fix it. Fortunately my husband is handy and was able to fashion some type of bracket to hold the high chair together. Yes indeed, it is perfect for holding a squirmy child, but wait until your kid learns to make a mess with food. I noticed most of the reviews on here were from parents with infants, not yet messy self feeders. The main drawback of having a wooden tray is it's ridiculous to clean. Food particles are permently etched into the grooves of the tray and the foot rest. Regardless of how much I scrubbed I could never get it clean. The finish on our tray has peeled off from trying to clean it, which leads me to believe its just not liquid friendly. On top of that the tray tended to sag and after 1 year of use was almost useless. All of this is just normal wear and tear. Unfortunatley for us, its more tear than actual wear. Now that our second is on the way, we are considering just buying a large plastic high chair, something that will endure abuse and actually clean!

5Really glad we bought this chairAug 28, 2006
We spent the extra money on this high chair because we live in a small house and the thought of a plastic monstrosity taking up all of our living space wasn't an option. We liked the fact that it is made of natural materials and would grow with our child. It took about an hour to assemble by a well seasoned Ikea consumer. A portion of the tray had been damaged in shipping. We called Svan directly and without any hassel we had another tray in 2 days. We have used this chair for six months and it has grown with our daughter. While visiting family, we had to use a platic high chair and our then 20-lb 8-month old barely fit in it. Although she was as big as kids twice her age, she was dwarfed by it and it was difficult to feed her. And let's not talk about the wheels on it that wouldn't stop rolling. In comparison, the Svan takes up far less space in the dining area and easily adjusts with kids' growth. Cleaning hasn't been an issue. The food flies and then we wash the tray in our sink and the cushions are machine washable. We have also gotten compliments on it from other parents who visit our home. We are very glad we purchased this chair and may even consider buying another for our second child, so our daughter can continue to use hers.

2Svan Low ChairJul 09, 2006
I live in Paris and fell in love with the look of the Svan Chair at friend's house in New York. Unable to find this chair in Europe, I opted to have it shipped from the US which cost me a fortune. My son is 4 months and is not yet big enough to use the chair but I decided to assemble it anyway, knowing that he will soon be able to support his neck and therefore be ready for his new stylish high chair.
It took me forever to put the whole thing together and frankly I found the instructions to be very unclear (both in the written manual and the illustrations).
After several hours of intense concentration, I began to assemble the tray which is the last task on the Infant kit. I carefully positioned the wood screws into their respective holes and once I began to screw, the wood seemed very soft or almost rotted which disabled me from screwing the screws.
Now what???? I have not been able to attach the plastic tray clips which means I will not be able to use the tray. The tray needs to be very secure as it will be coming on and off the table very frequently. I find it shocking that these clever Swedes could not come up with a more efficent way to attach those clips!
What's the point of spending a fortune and taking hours to assemble something when the tray will never be perfectly attached?
Somehow I'm a little worried. I hope I won't regret this.
