It lifts them up so they can be included in activities around the table. Children love interacting with the family. In today's hectic lifestyle, it is more important than ever to encourage these special moments of togetherness. The dining table is more than a place for mealtimes. It's for playing, homework or simply just talking, enjoying quality time together. A child sitting at the same height as an adult at a table stimulates development of confidence. We believe that life around the table is incredibly important. As an adult, we have the luxury of being able to rest our feet on the floor, allowing us to move freely to get comfortable. For your child, there is no such luxury. Tripp Trapp therefore features a unique, adjustable footrest that brings the floor up to your child. This creates better balance and comfort, as your child can easily shift their weight. By sitting with the feet supported and elbows at the table height, your child can move easier and naturally and use their body without strain. It's all about support, balance and movement. Tripp Trapp High Chair is a GREAT child chair!Jun 27, 2008 Our family loves the tripp trapp chair. Right now we have two of them that both my four year old and seven year old use at every meal. I also have an 18 month old who sits in the chair when his big sisters aren't in it. The girls have had their since they were old enough to sit at the table with the family and eat - around 8 months.
Pros-
* It's adjustable for all heights and sizes
* It will be used for YEARS and YEARS as opposed to a high chair that is out grown after a year or so.
* It encourages independence and self reliance
* It encourages proper posture and eating skills since it puts the child at the correct height for eating at the table
* It pushes into the table like a regular chair - saving space - unlike traditional high chairs
* It's attractive and even an adult can sit on it
Cons
* It has no tray for eating like a high chair -- at our house we also had a booster seat with a tray that attaches to a regular chair for around $25 to accomodate the time when we needed the tray -- like self feedings in the middle of the kitchen or outside.
* The cushion and rail are sold separately
* It's expensive! - but TOTALY worth it and the resell value is high
Our family highly recommends it! In fact we need another one for the little guy so he doesn't have to keep sharing!

not all it should be for the priceJun 25, 2008 I agree that this item is well made and is attractive. Our son does enjoy sitting in chair at the table, but this item's usefulness ends there.
First off, you have to buy not only the chair, but also the guard rail and the cushion, which brings the total costs for a simple high chair to well over $300.
The main drawback is that you can't bring the chair with you into other parts of the house. I can't talk about how often I have really needed to set my son in a high chair in the kitchen while I get dinner ready or straightn up. You can't do this with the Tripp Trapp chair--it has to be in the dining room next to the table, since it has no tray.
Now that our son is starting to wean and learning to feed himself, and therefore making a right mess, sling food and juice and milk all over the place, I really need to have the chair in the kitchen, where it is much easier to clean up.
Finally, I think that the way this item is marketed is extremely dishonest. In many descriptions, it is sold as a chair "a child can grow with," that is, they will be able to use it as a booster until they are big enough to sit in an adult chair. But in order to do this, you must take off all the hardware that holds the harness in place, which is going to cause nasty gouges in the wood. It will no longer be attractive then!
Save your money and buy a $25 deal you can move around the house.

Quality, looks, and functionalityApr 28, 2008 I love the Tripp Trapp. My daughter is 18months and looks so relaxed annd comfortable in it. She asks to get up. Totally worth the price, high quality construction. It is competing for the title of nicest piece of furniture that we own. I can see that we will use this for many years.
